OSAKA, THE KITCHEN OF JAPAN
There is no other city in the land of the rising sun filled with as much wonder as Osaka. Osaka is the entertainment capital in the Kansai region, and its economic might is second only to Tokyo. The city is well known in Asia as a centre for trade and industry. The Japanese more lovingly know Osaka as “Tenka no Daidokoro”, or “the kitchen of Japan”. This reputation guarantees that you will find some great meals.
Osaka is slightly different from Tokyo. Osaka’s people seem more cheerful and relaxed. It’s easy to wander around Umeda district with its many shopping malls. Or get mesmerised in the Dotonbori area which is lined up with restaurants and neon color billboards at night, including a giant Glico billboard, the symbol of Osaka. The downtown area is divided into two parts: the north is the administrative, business and economic area while the south has restaurants, shopping malls and nightlife areas like Namba, Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori that are located close to the main railway stations (JR Namba and Nankai Namba Station). For those who want a peek into the ancient Japanese way of life, Osaka is also a gateway to Kyoto and Nara. There is a saying that if you “go to Kyoto, buying kimono will bankrupt you. Come to Osaka, eating will bankrupt you,” whether this is true or not, you’ll have to find out for yourself.
